Onion Samosa is very famous street food in my hometown Coimbatore. They make this samosa using very fewer ingredients, but it gives an excellent taste. The main ingredient in this recipe is sliced onions. Onions are tossed with basic Indian spices and stuffed in the samosa sheets. Usually, samosa sheets are prepared using All-purpose flour, but I have replaced all-purpose flour with wheat flour to make it healthy version. I did not find any difference in taste and we can happily serve this for our children. It takes very less time, but kids will gobble this in no time. It will be super crispy outside with soft tasty onions inside. We will fry the samosas twice to get a nice colour and crispiness. Frying samosas on very low flame are important tip in this recipe.

If you are preparing Onion Samosa for your house party, then fry them once and keep the samosas ready. Then fry them again when you are ready to serve.

Tips to make perfect Onion Samosa:

  1. The dough should not be too soft.
  2. Add very less oil while preparing the stuffing.
  3. Do not cook onions for a longer time.
  4. Fry the samosas twice for a nice and crispy texture.
  5. Cook the samosas on low flames to avoid bubbles outside.
  6. Samosa sheets should be thin and cook the sheets for just a few seconds before making cones.
  7. If you have more samosa sheets then cook 2 at a time in the pan and separate the sheets.

Here is the step by step process for Onion Samosa:

Take a bowl, add 1 cup wheat flour, salt,

1 tbsp oil and mix well.

Now add water little by little and make a dough. Keep the prepared dough aside.

Take a pan, add 2 tbsp oil

add 2 onions thinly sliced and saute for few seconds. Then add salt to taste

½ tsp turmeric, ½ tsp chilli powder, ½ tsp garam masala, ½ tsp coriander powder and mix well. Saute the onions for 2 to 3 minutes. Do not cook them for a longer time. Allow the onion mixture to cool down completely.

Now take the prepared dough, make small balls and roll them to a small circle.

Prepare all the samosa sheets and keep them together. Then take a pan, add the prepared samosa sheets in the pan and add 1 tsp oil.

Cook them both the sides for not more than 2 minutes. Do not cook them for a longer time. Now separate the samosa sheets once it is cooked for few seconds.

Prepare a thick paste using plain flour to stick the samosa sheet. Keep the onion stuffing ready.

Now cut the samosa sheet into half and make them a cone (verify the image below or video).

Fold one side of the sheet and apply flour paste and stick the other corner.

Now the cone is ready.

Add 1 tbsp onion stuffing inside the cone and stick the corners to seal all the sides completely.

Keep all the samosas ready for frying.

Now heat some oil in a pan. Fry the samosas on very low heat for 2 minutes and remove them from oil and set it aside.

After frying all the samosas, now again fry them the second time to get nice and crispy samosas.

Fry them on low flame again for 2 to 3 minutes or till they are golden brown. Now remove them from oil and serve hot.
