Masala Makhana is a healthy instant snack that is prepared using Lotus seeds/Makhana. Fox nuts are rich in calcium, protein, carbohydrates, iron and contain less sodium which is beneficial for the people with blood pressure. Makhana tastes similar to popcorn. It is a crunchy, tasty and healthy snack for children. This can be prepared in 10 minutes. We can make so many healthy dishes using makhana, but this is my favourite of all. Fox nuts are known for slowing down the ageing process.
I try to keep some stock of makhana as my children are so fond of this snack. I have never cooked and stored them for later use as this is very quick to make so I always make them fresh. Makhana is very soft and chewy before cooking them but once we cook them for 7 to 10 minutes the entire texture will change it to crunchy.

Here is the detailed recipe for Masala Makhana:
Popped lotus seeds are small white balls. Check the below pic for reference. Take 3 tbsp oil in a pan. You can even use ghee for better taste.
Once the oil is hot, add some salt to taste and 1/2 tsp turmeric. I also add extra turmeric for better colour.
Then add 1/4 tsp chilli powder (add according to your taste preference) and mix well in the oil. You can even use pepper powder instead of chilli powder.
Note: Cook on low to medium heat to avoid burning.
Once everything is mixed well in the oil, add 1 cup makhana. Then mix makhana in the oil well. Make sure to coat the seeds completely well in the oil. It takes about 7 to 10 minutes to cook.
