Nendram Pazha Bajji is a very famous Kerala snack. You will find this snack in almost all the places in Kerala. It is mainly prepared using a particular banana which is very famous in Kerala called Nendram Pazham. It is quite long compared to other bananas and also it is a little different colour inside the banana.
If you live in foreign countries, then you will find these bananas in Indian grocery shops. You can see this snack in almost all the tea shops in Coimbatore. Coimbatore is very close to Kerala that may be the reason why it is available in many shops in Coimbatore.

Choosing the banana is very important because that gives the taste to the entire dish so try to choose ripe banana. Ripe ones are very sweet, and you can cut them in any shape. I have made a good big size chunk, but you can make it in small bite size for the children or you can slice them like how we do it for our normal bajji. The shape doesn’t matter, all we need is sweet and ripe nendram pazham.

Here is the detailed recipe for Nendram Pazham:
Take 1 cup All-Purpose flour and 2 tbsp Rice Flour in a bowl.
Add a pinch of salt and 3 tbsp sugar (you can add more sugar if you prefer sweeter).
Then add 1/4 tsp baking soda, 1/4 tsp cardamom powder and 1/4 tsp turmeric.
Mix all the dry ingredients before adding water. Add water little by little and make a thick batter. Once the batter is ready, keep it aside.
Heat oil in a pan. Now take the sliced banana and dip in the batter and drop slowly in the oil. Do not crowd the pan with too many slices. Add 3 to 4 in the pan, according to the size of your kadai. Fry for 3 to 4 minutes on medium to high heat or till they are golden brown.
Drain the banana bajji once it is golden brown.
